Maina’s Son, Faisal, Flees To USA Over Fraud Charges – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday said Faisal Maina, the son of docked former Chairman, defunct Pension Reformed Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina, has fled to the United States of America (USA).

According to EFCC’s Counsel, Mohammed Abubakar, information at the disposal of the anti-graft agency indicated that Faisal sneaked to the USA through Niger Republic.

Abubakar told Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja that having jumped bail, Faisal is currently not in the country to stand trial on accusations brought against him.

In a committal proceeding ruling earlier at the Thursday’s sitting, Justice Abang had ordered Faisal’s surety, Sani Dan-Galadima, who is a member of the House of Representatives, to forfeit the property used as a bail bond.

Dan-Galadima represents the Kaura-Namoda Federal Constituency of Zamfara state in the lower legislative chamber.

Faisal was granted a N60 million bail with a surety in the like sum who must be a serving member of the House of Representatives.

Faisal, who is facing a three-count money laundering charge preferred against him by EFCC, had earlier been declared wanted by the Federal High Court in Abuja after he jumped bail on June 24, 2020

However, at the resumed hearing of the case in December 2020, the anti-graft agency confirmed to the court that Faisal was apprehended by security operatives.

The EFCC’s charge sheet said between 2013 and 2019, Faisal received a total of N58.11 million, being proceeds of corrupt practices by his father.

It also said Faisal is being prosecuted for alleged possession of an illegal firearm. He was accused of pulling a gun against Department of State Services (DSS) operatives who arrested him and his father in an Abuja hotel on September 30, 2019 – With NAN reports
