Man, 31 Remanded In Ebonyi For Alleged Armed Robbery

An Abakaliki Magistrate Court o Tuesday remanded a middle age man, one Azubuike Nwali to Prisons custody over his alleged involvement in armed robbery in the State.

The suspect is alleged to have committed the crime on 22nd December, 2016 at Amainyima Okpuitumo in Ikwo local government area of the state.

Nwali was charged on a 3 count charge of Armed robbery, illegal possession of fire arm and robbing of party materials valued at N60,000 belonging to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“That you Azubuike Nwali and others now at large, on 22nd day of December, 2016 at Amainyima Okpuitumo in Ikwo local government area, in jurisdiction of this honourable court, dis arm yourself with locally made pistol and rob the sum of N55, 000.00 from one Ifeanyi Agala and Nwanchor and thereby committed an offense punishable under section 402 of the Criminal code Cap 33 vol.1 Laws of Ebonyi state of Nigeria 2009”.

In his submission, the Prosecutor, Inspector Ewa Ovat refused any form of bail application by the counsel to the Accused insisted that the suspect be remanded without bail.

In his ruling, the presiding Judge, His Lordship, Olughu Nwachi who stated that the matter was a capital offense transferred the case to
the State High Court for accelerated hearing.

The presiding Judge adjourned the case to 3rd March, 2017 and remanded the suspect to Abakaliki federal prisons.
