Manchester City’s goal-scoring machine, Erling Haaland says he is hungry for more goals after his strike secured a 3-1 victory for the Citizens on Wednesday night as they overhaul Arsenal on top of the English Premiership table albeit temporarily

Haaland, who had not scored in three consecutive matches, stroked home City’s third goal in their 3-1 hard-fought win at the Emirate Stadium.

Highlighting that the hard work continues, the Norwegian’s strike capped off a fine City move and put the icing on the cake of a dominant performance against Mikel Arteta’s side, who lost their grip on the top spot after months at the Premier League summit.

Haaland’s goal was his first in four matches – somewhat of a goal drought by the impeccably high standards he sets for himself – and the Norwegian stressed that the work doesn’t stop now.

According to him; “We can all agree [Arsenal] has been the best team this season, so to come and play against them is not easy, but we played an amazing game and got three really important points – we are in it again,” Haaland said. “City are ‘we’, not me, are the champions, so you can say [that it was a champions’ performance].”

When asked about ending his goal drought, he replied: “It has been 20 minutes since I last got a goal – so I have to keep working! It was so positive, we needed this one and now we have to go on a run because that’s what Manchester City should do.”

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has hailed his side’s quality after City moved ahead of Arsenal to the summit of the Premier League with a victory at the Emirates, but warned that the league is not over yet.

Guardiola’s side showed they are not ready to surrender the title with a ruthless display of finishing that lifted them above Arsenal on goal difference and the Manager was quite happy with the second-half power surge by the champions in the crucial 3-1 victory.

Kevin De Bruyne put City ahead in the first half at the Emirates Stadium and, although Bukayo Saka equalised with a controversial penalty, Jack Grealish landed the vital blow in the second half when he restored the visitors’ lead.

Erling Haaland’s 26th goal in 22 league appearances for City killed off Arsenal in the closing stages and wrapped up a deserving 3-1 victory for the reigning champions with the Gunners slipping off the top spot they had occupied since the third week of this season. – With agency reports
