Management Probes ABU Senate Building Fire Incident

The Management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, has set up panel to investigate the fire outbreak at the institution’s Senate building on Friday, December 1, 2023.

The team is charged with unraveling the circumstances surrounding the fire incident that started at about 4:15pm.

A statement issued by the Director, Public Affairs Directorate of the University, Awwal Umar, said the fire started from a small room on the ground floor of the building where the electrical Distribution Board (DB) is located.

According to the statement, the cause of the fire incident could not be immediately ascertained, adding that “No injuries or casualties have been reported.”

The statement, which confirmed that the “Distribution Board and some obsolete public address systems have been consumed by the fire”, however said; “The timely intervention of the University firefighters and security personnel saved the situation.”

On the current situation of things, the University Spokesman said the cheering news is that; “Power has since been restored to the affected building.”

Reacting to the fire outbreak, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala, who visited the incident scene accompanied by some management staff and a crowd of sympathisers, praised the University firefighters and security personnel for their prompt response in putting out the fire.

While promising to unravel the cause of the fire, Prof Bala assured that every measure would be put in place to forestall future occurrence
