Manipal Hospital Conducts Oncology Workshop For NUJ

Manipal Hospitals has rolled out a successful workshop for members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists with more than 50 people in attendance at the insightful and informative session.

Speaking about the workshop, Dr. Somashekar S.P, Chairman Oncology, Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt. Ltd, Manipal Hospitals said that the aim of the session was to help people understand the importance of early diagnosis of cancer and the various treatments available for the disease.

According to Somashekar; “With technological advancements and innovations reaching a new dimension in the field of oncology, we introduced the audiences to various technologies which include Robotics and associated technologies.

“We also spoke extensively on various methods available to easily diagnose the tumour and help prevent any serious outcomes by detecting it early before the cancer reaches an advanced stage,” he said.

The session also threw light on various advanced chemotherapy and surgical procedures available for the treatment just as it emphasized that prevention is better than cure and therefore leveraged the opportunity to explain the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and healthy diet which can help people prevent cancer.

Speaking in turn, Mr Karthik Rajagopal, Chief Operating Officer, Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt. Ltd said the session was very interactive and enjoyed by the audience, adding that the present pandemic taught people the importance of building a global network of healthcare ecosystem which will help to bridge the gaps in the healthcare chain.

According to him; “With this aim, we are planning on conducting many such workshops which let us share our knowledge and also help us in learning insights from the global healthcare ecosystem.

“We will be adding multiple such workshops in the future which will cater to different Centre(s) of Excellence (CoEs) and do our part in making quality healthcare accessible to the global community.”

In his remarks, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Christopher Isiguzo said; “We are happy to associate with one of the most respected hospital brands in the world. We will get medical advice and knowledge from the experienced doctors of Manipal Hospitals.

Speaking in turn, Mr. Shuaibu Leman, who is the National Secretary of the NUJ, noted that the association will not only benefit the Union but will also help people of Nigeria live and lead a healthy lifestyle.
