Many Feared Dead As 3-Storey Building Collapsed In Kano
BY SALISU IBRAHIM, KANO – Several people were feared trapped following the collapse of a three-storey building under construction along Beirut Road situated in one of the GSM markets in Kano.
Beirut Road is one of the very busy areas in Kano metropolis where the building collapse occurred at about 4:30pm on Tuesday.
Our Correspondent that visited the scene reports that many people were feared to have been trapped in the rubbles even as rescue work continue.
However, the fear being expressed was that those trapped inside the building might not get the needed support due to unavailable equipment to carry out effective rescue operation.
Eye witnesses opined that when the building caved in, there were so many people trapped under it who could not be rescued due to absence of available and needed rescue equipment.
One of the unfortunate victims whose colleague contacted on his mobile was heard screaming and calling for help but nothing much could be done to give him the needed support even as his voice was being heard through his GSM.
An eye witness said; “We called his number and he was picking all the calls but there was no way for him to escape and get out of the trap”.
Meanwhile, the rescue operation team later brought an excavator to the scene of the collapsed building to boost efforts at assisting the trapped victims get out of the debris alive.
