Minister Of State For Works Orders Reconstruction Of Mokwa Collapsed Culvert

The Minister of State for works, Hon. Goronyo Bello has declared that the collapsed culvert in Mokwa, Niger State which serves as a vital link in our national road network, is unacceptable.

Bello, who stated this when he carried out an urgent inspection of the collapsed culvert which was one of the tragic sites that claimed numerous lives and disrupted transportation and economic activity in the area last week, said its failure was devastating.

During the inspection, Bello expressed deep concern over the devastating impact of the collapse on residents and commuters and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives as a result of the incident.

And following the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister gave an instant order for the immediate reconstruction of the culvert, stressing that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring swift and quality reconstruction of all critical infrastructure affecting the safety and wellbeing of Nigerians.

According to Bello; “The lives and safety of our citizens must always come first. On the instructions of Mr. President, I have directed the immediate mobilization of materials, manpower, and equipment to this site to ensure expedited restoration.”

The Minister assured the people of Mokwa in particular and Niger State in general that the Federal Government remains steadfast in its mission to improve infrastructure, promote road safety, and prevent future occurrences through proactive maintenance and rapid response.

A statement by Maryam Mohammed Sanusi, Director of Information and Public Relations of FERMA, said that the Minister assured that the Ministry will continue to monitor the progress of work at the site to ensure timely completion.

Sanusi further said that the Minister also directed relevant agencies to work round the clock to restore the culvert to functionality.
