BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – A Social reform group in Abuja, The Nation Builders has described Barrister Solomon Dalung’s presence in the Federal Government delegation to drum up support for the Super Eagles at the ongoing AFCON 2019 as a welcomed development.

According to the group, as the immediate past Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Dalung’s involvement is significant given the Eagles’ quest to claim a fourth tittle for Nigeria at the bi-ennial continental soccer fiesta.

The group, in a press statement issued by an executive member, Linda Ohamara in Abuja at the weekend, said it is instructive that Dalung, who democratized the nation’s sports sector for efficiency, transparency and effective mandate delivery, is selected among those representing the Presidency at the tournament in Egypt.

Ohamara said given the former Minister’s landmark achievements in the sports industry during his three and half years tenure, reappointing him to head the sector in the new dispensation will ensure stability as well as sustain the required reforms that had already taken off.

“We know Dalung to be a man of passion for sports development and we want to thank President Muhamadu Buhari for giving him the opportunity to inspire Super Eagles again as a man, who began the democratization and reform of the sector. We strongly believe that his reappointment as Sports Minister will help maintain robust growth in the sector”, she said

The statement said a great personality like Dalung is needed to continue with transparent oversight of the Sports Federations and ensure nothing is taken for granted, adding; “We recall that since the end of the last tenure on May 29th, 2019, many Nigerians who believe in Dalung’s leadership qualities and reforms have been expecting his return to the sector.

“This is actually a sign that he developed great values during his oversight of the Sports federations and therefore deserves a place in the new team.

“I think his oversight is really needed at this time of growth and development in the Nigerian Sports sector to ensure things are not taken for granted going forward.

She said the group’s Executive Committee, comprising several youth leaders from the Six geo-political zones in Nigeria, also seeks to act as agents of reforms and change that speak for the poor Nigerian masses.

She further explained that as the group’s name implies, the Nation Builders stand for the truth, and focuses on encouraging governments at all levels to work hard and be committed towards nation building and reformation for the overall good of all Nigerians at home and in Diaspora.
