Multiple Accidents Claim 3 Lives On Lagos/Ibadan Expressway

An early morning multiple accidents on Friday claimed the lives of three people with one person seriously injured along the Ogun State axis of the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.

The incident, which occurred inbound Lagos at DANCO area at about 5.25 am, involved a collision of four vehicles on the accident scene.

Reports listed the motor vehicles involved as MAN containerised truck with number plates T8943 LA; an unidentified HOWO truck; IVECO flat body with number plate SSU 517 XA laden with beer; and a SINO truck with number plates T8953LA, laden with granite, and nine occupants in all.

Spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the unfortunate incident, said the fatalities were three males, while one male was injured.

According to an eyewitness account, the MAN Diesel truck driver lost control and overturned, with two other vehicles ramming into it from the rear.

The source however noted the quick response and rescue operation by personnel of TRACE, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police, and construction giants, Julius Berger despite the earlier hours that the accident took place.

According to the TRACE image-maker, the bodies recovered from the scene were deposited at Idera Hospital, while the injured victim was rescued before the emergency team got to the scene.

It was further gathered that the accident trucks were towed to the nearest Police station for further investigations.

Commiserating with the affected families, the TRACE spokesman, Akinbiyi urged motorists, particularly articulated vehicle drivers, to avoid speeding and ensure their vehicles are properly latched and in good condition, in view of its attendant consequences.
