The wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mrs Regina Akume, has made a public outburst over her husband, Senator George Akume, abandoning the Christian faith, which she noted has given him and his family, so much.
Mrs. Akume, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency, stated this at the wedding reception for the son of Senator Akume, Mr Aondoakura in Makurdi.
In a video interview conducted by ‘Together TV’, Hon (Mrs) Akume insisted that her husband’s rise and achievements in life were rooted in his Christian faith, stressing that abandoning it at this point in time will possibly bring about his downfall.
Mrs Akure, who prayed for her husband’s long life and good health as he recently marked his 72nd birthday, advised him against abandoning Christianity.
In the words of Mrs Akure; “I pray that the Lord will increase his years, good health of mind and body, and give him clarity in thinking and doing things right.
“And he should remember that he is a Christian, and it is Christianity that brought him this far. To drop Christianity now and go for anything else, he will not be successful.
“We came all the way to the office of SGF, not through enemies, but through Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is still alive and still working for us. I wish that he would come back to Christianity,” she stated.
Mrs Akume’s comments come in the heat of Senator Akume’s marriage to Zaynab Ngohemba-George, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The marriage which was made public on December 26, 2025, through a Facebook post by Abraham Double-D Dajoh, a member of the Akume Dajoh family from Mbakor, Benue State, welcoming Zaynab into the family, is believed to be generating ripples in the family.
