BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – Governor Abdullahi Sule has raised an alarm that Nasarawa State does not have the required capacity to manage any large scale confirmed cases of coronavirus, but assured that his administration will go the extra mile to avoid the dreaded virus’ outbreak in the state.
The Governor admitted with concern that widespread infection could have devastating effect on both the economy and health of the state, especially given its ranking among States with the least revenue allocation from Federation account.
Governor Sule spoke on Thursday while receiving, at the Government House, a report on oversight functions of all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) carried out by the Nasarawa State Civil Service Commission.
He therefore appealed to residents of the state to bear with the decisions being taking by his administration to lockdown as part of precautionary measures in a bid to protect them against the pandemic.
Governor Sule assured that government will spare no efforts at ensuring the effects of its tough decisions are not so devastating on the people.
With assurances of palliatives from both the Federal and state governments, the governor urged the people to make the necessary sacrifices until the prevailing situation improves.
According to him, “Truly speaking, I am worried about the negative impact COVID-19 could have on the health and economy of our state.”
“The state will be badly hit, especially economically, and also in the area of health, once we discover that we have positive cases in Nasarawa State,” he said.
“I know decisions we are taking are painful to the people, especially at a time we just went through the Easter period and we are also approaching the Ramadan”, the governor admitted – With agency report
