Nasarawa Former Commissioner Rejects Al-makura’s Sole Candidacy For Senate
BY BABA AHMED, LAFIA – Cracks have emerged in the Nasarawa state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as one of the former commissioners to Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura has rejected the governor’s endorsement as the sole candidate for Nasarawa South senatorial district.
Al-makura was recently endorsed as the sole candidate for Nasarawa South senatorial district at the State secretariat of the APC through a voice vote when he formerly declared to contest for the senate in 2019.
Adamu, a former commissioner for Environment in the Governor Al-makura’s administration said that he is more competent to contest for the seat than his former boss.
According to him; “Endorsing Al-makura as the sole candidate will not stand because we are in democracy and if they do otherwise we will challenge the decision at a higher authority.
“As a former member of the State House of Assembly, I have more experience to occupy the red chamber. Al-makurs lacks legislative experience and intellect to bring dividends of democracy to the
Nasarawa South senatorial district.
“I am more competent than Al-makura, I have legislative experience because I was one time a member of the State Assembly.”
He also said that he has more supporters and followers in the zone than all those aspiring for the Senate in the zone, adding that his wealth of experience in politics coupled with crowd of supporters will lead the APC to victory.
Adamu said the decision to reserve the seat for only Al-makura will spell doom for the party because he lacks the followership to win election in the senatorial district and therefore urged the party to adhere strictly to the rules of the game to avoid creating problem in the state that will cause serious confusion that will bring about the failure of the party in 2019.
