BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Ahmed Wadada, has called on the Independent National electoral
Commission (INEC), to delineate more constituencies across the country.
Wadada, who represented Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency in the House before aspiring for the governorship ticket of his state in 2015, told Forefront News on Thursday that Nasarawa State deserves additional five federal constituencies to the existing five delineated by the constitution.
The present five federal constituencies in Nasarawa State include, Keffi/Karu/Kokona, Nasarawa/Toto, Wamba/Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon, Keana/Obi and Lafia/Obi federal constituencies.
Wadada said that the state will need more representation both at the National and State level for people to feel the impact of governance
the more.
He argued that some federal constituencies in the state are large than a senatorial district in some other states of the federation.
According to hiom; “My federal constituency Keffi/Karu/Kokona for instance, is bigger than a
senatorial district in another state, likewise Wamba/Akwanga/Nasarawa/Eggon also needs another federal constituency.
“Nasarawa needs ten federal constituencies especially with population explosion along Mararaba Karu axis and the economic importance of the state to the federal capital Territory Abuja.
“In Nasarawa, they are local governments that have only one member each at the State Assembly while others have two each. Such local governments should have additional constituencies for state Assembly.
“Wamba and Keana local governments have one member each at the state Assembly. It is only wise and right to delineate additional constituency
for them like other local governments in the state that have two each.
“Devoid of any sentiment the minimum of federal constituencies in Nasarawa should double what we have today. My federal constituency is bigger than a senatorial constituency in some states.”
