BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Following the Appeal Court’s affirmation of her February 25, 2023, electoral victory, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been officially sworn in as the new senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District in the current 10th National Assembly (NASS).

President of the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, supervised the oath of office administered to her by the Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Chinedu Akubueze, at about 11:41 a.m. during plenary on Thursday.

Thereafter, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan got an official handshake from the Senate President, who handed over to her a copy of the Senate Standing Rules. Then it was the turn of the Sergeant-at-arms to lead the new Kogi lawmaker to her seat after an exchange of pleasantries with her colleagues in the Chamber.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s swearing-in is coming about 72 hours after the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, affirmed her as the duly elected candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial poll held on February 25 this year after dismissing the appeal filed by Senator Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for lack of merit.

In September, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan got the victory at the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital, which nullified the victory of Ohere as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
