National Treasury Academy: Ogunjimi Courts UK ICAN District Support

BY COBHAM NSA – The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Dr. Shemeldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has solicited professional collaboration and support from the United Kingdom District of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) towards transforming the National Treasury Academy, Orozo into a world-class institution.

He said aligning the Academy with global standards would significantly elevate and enhance its capacity to become a centre of excellence in public financial management and accounting.

The AGF said the Federal Government’s intention is to ensure the Academy becomes known for high-quality, leading-edge performance and delivery in its relevant field

Addressing a delegation from the UK ICAN District, led by its current Chairman, Mr. Akintayo Ojo, FCNA, that visited him in Abuja, Dr. Ogunjimi urged them to leverage on their wealth of experience and expertise in accounting principles and international best practices for the academy’s advancement.

A statement signed by Bawa Mokwa, Director, Press Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) affirmed Dr Ogunjimi’s commitment to transforming the Academy into an institution with highest quality and excellent standards for training and capacity development in Nigeria’s public finance sector.

Furthermore, to indicate its proactive approach in embracing international accounting standards, Ogunjimi assured the delegation that the Treasury staff would actively participate in the UK ICAN Conference scheduled hold in March 2026.

Chairman of the UK ICAN District, Mr. Akintayo Ojo, had earlier thanked Dr. Ogunjimi for his unwavering support and commitment that have contributed immensely to the District’s achievements in recent times.

Also providing insights into preparations for the District’s 35th Annual Conference holding in early March 2026, Mr Ojo officially invited the OAGF to grace the event.

Formerly known as the Federal Treasury Training School (FTTS), the National Treasury Academy was established in 1973 in Lagos to train accountants and auditors in public service.

The institution, which eventually moved to Abuja in 1991, is currently located at Orozo in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Its mandate is to serve as a premier center for developing human capacity in public finance management.
