The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Friday, December 27, 2024, announced that it has given approval for the disconnection of Exchange Telecommunications Limited (Exchange) from MTN Nigeria Communications Limited (MTN) over the non-settlement of interconnect charges.

This was contained a statement by Reuben Muoka, Director of Public Affairs of the NCC, stating that the Exchange was duly informed of the disconnection request and granted an opportunity to present its case.

Mouka also said that following a comprehensive review, the NCC determined that the Exchange failed to provide sufficient justification for its non-payment of the charges.

Mouka said that pursuant to Section 100 of the NCC Act 2003 and the 2012 Guidelines for Disconnection Procedures, MTN would discontinue routing voice and data traffic through Exchange five days after the notice’s issuance.

The Commission also said that alternative channels for interconnection will be utilized during this period, adding that the disconnection would remain effective until otherwise directed.
