An officer with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), identified as ASP Aliyu Imran, has been lynched by an irate mob in Gadan-Gayan, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Imran, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotic 1, was allegedly attacked after a car being pursued by NDLEA operatives crashed, allegedly killing four persons on the spot. The unfortunate and tragic incident took place during a drug-related operation when a suspect, attempting to evade arrest, reversed his vehicle and hit some pedestrians.
An eye witness account said that ASP Imran had stepped out of the patrol vehicle to calm the people who were becoming enraged when he was attacked by irate mob.
It was also gathered that the late Imran was stabbed severally before being taken to a nearby hospital by a police officer and the mob still followed him to the hospital, dragged him out and set him ablaze.
It was gathered that Imran, who got married in December, was laid to rest on Saturday, February 15 while his wife reportedly passed out during his burial.
The NDLEA and security agencies have vowed to investigate the circumstances of his death and ensure justice is served.
