NGF Harps On Objectivity At Premium Times Training On Conflict Reporting
BY AHMED TUKUR IN ABUJA – The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has challenged journalists on accurate and objective reportage of conflict and peace building in the country.
Director General of the NGF, Asishana Bayo Okauru, who stated the position of the Forum at a two-day training workshop for journalists on peace and conflict–sensitive reporting taking place at the NGF secretariat Abuja, assured that the Forum would ensure that journalists are trained to live up to their expectations, adding that the NGF will continue to partner the media to keep Nigeria as a country.
Okauru said; “The NGF as a platform for all the 36 states governors believes in the fundamentals and inalienable importance of freedom of speech and so continues to partner with the media”.
The Director General emphasized that only responsible reportage will assist to create the enabling environment for peace and nation building
He further said the NGF is convinced that no nation develops without a responsible media and therefore urged journalists to imbibe a high sense of professionalism that will help the Nigerian society together.
Okauru also said; “On our part, we expect high standards of professionalism and a keen eye to details from all of you”
“I have been reliably informed that premium times has invited some of the most introspective journalist to interact with”.
On her part, the proprietor of Radio Now 93.2, Lagos, Kadaria Ahmed, urged journalists to avoid sentiments and biased reportage.
