BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – Following the release from prison of former governor of Adamawa State, James Bala Ngilari, the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB) has suspended three senior Prisons officers.
Ngilari was handed down a five-year jail term by a High Court, but was released from prison, having served barely 20 days in Yola prison,
The suspended officers that were indicted for their complicity in the issuance of unauthorised medical report on Ngilari, are CP Peter Yeni Tenkwa, DCP Abubakar Abaka and SP John Bukar
The letter dated 3rd April, 2017 and signed by the Director/Secretary of the Board, Mr. Sunday Dan Ogu, said the suspension of the officers is pending the outcome of all necessary investigations into the matter.
A press statement issued to this effect by the Prisons Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DCP Francis Enobore, said as a result of the development, a new Controller and officer in-charge has been posted to take over the state command and Yola prison respectively, including a medical doctor to oversee the prison clinic.
Enobore said the officers have since resumed duties.
