NGO Donates Family Planning Instruments To LGAs In Taraba State
BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mariestopes International Nigeria, working on contraception and family planning, on Tuesday made a donation of clinical equipment worth millions of naira to 50 health facilities in 14 Local government areas of Taraba state.
While making the donation at a short ceremony at the Taraba State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Jalingo. the State Clinical Training Officer of Mariestopes, Mrs Modupe Dimka, said the equipment, mainly Autoclaves, was to prevent infection in rendering family planning services to the communities.
She said; “The equipment will help those rendering the services to sterilize and clean the instruments before using them on women seeking for family planning services.”
She commended the level of response to the services being rendered across the 14 LGAs in Taraba where Mariestopes is working, saying that the situation is improving daily.
According to her; “We want to encourage families to have children by choice and not by chance in order to improve on the overall development of the communities.
“Controlling births would impact positively on the overall economy and also improve the wellbeing of the women.”
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Taraba Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Alhaji Aminu Hassan expressed appreciation for the intervention of Mariestopes in the area of family planning.
He assured the NGO of the state government’s commitment towards providing the enabling environment for them to have an uninterrupted flow in the discharge of their mandate in the state.
He called on other NGOs working in various healthcare services to come forward and partner with the state government to improve the wellbeing of the population.
Forefront News recalls that Mariestopes International Nigeria had earlier trained various categories of health workers, traditional and religious leaders in the state to acquaint them with knowledge and commodities involved in the planning process.
This was done with a view to providing choices for families seeking advice in family planning.
