Nigeria Governors Forum Raps The World On SDGs, Climate Change At 74th UNGA
The Nigeria Governors Forum will on Friday, September 27, 2019) join two permanent missions to the United Nations, Spain and Nigeria, in co-hosting a high-level side event at the United Nation’s headquarters in New York.
Also among the hosts are Local 2030 and UN Global Compact.
The event which is x-raying ‘The Role of Subnational Governments in Achieving the SDGs and the Paris Agreement,’ has six speakers, among who are the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Professor Tijjani Muhammad-Bande and the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed.
The two are expected to be led by the Chairman of the NGF and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
Also to speak at the event are Professor Jeffrey Sachs, an economist from Columbia University, Juan Pablo De LaigLasia, Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Kerry Adler, President and CEO of Skypower Global which is a ground-breaking solar power company that prides itself with building stronger economies and a cleaner environment by adding renewables to the energy mix.
The event is expected to start at 3:00 pm and ends at 6:00pm in Conference Room 1 at the UN. Senior Vice President for the 2030
It is expected that the event will be steered by two panels; Panel one which will dissect Subnational Implementation Progress: SDGs and climate action in Nigeria will have as Speakers, the governors of Sokoto and Vice Chairman of the NGF Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who will be joined by the governors of Ebonyi, Borno, UNDP Regional Director for Africa and one other.
Panel Two will have as Speaker of Lagos State, Hon Babjide Sanwo-Olu and Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State who are joined by Senior Vice-president for the 2030 Development Agenda, Sachs and Addler.
The topic will cut across a range of climate issues including, erosion, desertification, flooding, and such environmentally harmful substances as plastic bags. Professor Zulum of Borno State will be talking about Implementing SDGs and Taking Climate Action Amidst Conflict.
Already Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States and President Muhammadu Buhari’s SSA on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri are billed to grace the occasion just as it is billed to attract guests from across the globe.
