Nigerian Capital Market To Commence Secondary Schools Quiz Competition

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with Core International (Core) supported by Financial Markets Indaba have launched the Nigerian Capital Market – Secondary Schools Quiz Competition.

The competition which is a national initiative is aimed at promoting financial literacy, enhancing understanding of capital markets, and equipping Nigeria’s youth with essential financial knowledge and foundational decision-making skills.

The competition which is expected to run for six months commencing in September 2025, will involve 370 schools.

The participating schools will be based on selection of 10 par state of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). There will also be a three-stage academic tournament that will take place at the State-level preliminaries, Zonal semi-finals and National grand finale.

The programme was designed to foster a spirit of academic excellence, teamwork, and inclusivity by ensuring representation across Nigeria’s diverse educational landscape and offering equal participation from public and private institutions.

The joint initiative will be hosted on the Financial Markets Indaba platform, a sister organisation of Core International, that possesses experience in financial literacy initiatives and national engagement capabilities, thereby supporting the program’s reach.

Beyond the competition itself, the initiative encompasses key educational components for teachers to undergo a dedicated training workshop to support student preparation and facilitate long-term curriculum integration of financial literacy.

Additionally, participating students will access a Virtual Trading Platform that simulates real-time stock trading using the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) market data, offering hands-on experience with investment concepts in a risk-free environment.

Through this programme, students will explore key areas including savings, investment, stock markets, and economic development, while also competing for national recognition and prizes. The collaboration ensures professional oversight, content alignment with national education standards, and integrity in adjudication, supported by representatives from all partnering organisations.

Operating under the theme; “Empowering Future Investors through Knowledge,” the Nigerian Capital Market – Secondary Schools Quiz Competition directly supports the SEC’s mandate of investor protection and market development by nurturing a financially literate generation, thereby strengthening the foundations of Nigeria’s future economy and fostering a more robust and inclusive capital market for sustainable national growth.
