Nigerian Pilot Chief Leads Enugu NUJ Correspondents Chapel

BY RAPHAEL ONYEKACHUKWU, ENUGU – The Correspondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council on Tuesday inaugurated its new executives following a successful election supervised by the State Executive Council (SEC) of the Union.

The election held on Monday, November 6, 2017 had returned Comrade Emmanuel Nweze of Nigerian Pilot as Chairman and Comrade Ifeoma Aka as Vice Chairman.

Other successful candidates at the polls are Emma Acha of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) – Secretary; Raphael Ede of Blueprint Newspapers – Treasurer; Maureen Ikpeama of National Light – Financial Secretary; and Cletus Obi of Nations Newspaper – Auditor.

Inaugurating the new executives, Chairman of the NUJ State Council, Comrade Rex Arum, charged them to uphold the sanctity of the Union’s Constitution at all times. 

He challenged journalists to always conform with the ethics and basic fundamentals of the media profession as they seek to hold those in authority accountable. 

Comrade Arum lauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his fatherly intervention that eventually brought lasting peace in the chapel, describing him as a peace loving leader who has used his leadership dexterity to ensure peace and stability in the state.

The State Council Chairman also praised the former Chapel Chairman, Comrade Petrus Obi for successfully piloting its affairs in the past three years.

He therefore pleaded with all aggrieved members to sheath their sword and embrace peace in order to move the Chapel forward.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Emmanuel Nweze thanked members for their overwhelming and unflinching support for him to lead the chapel.

He said the Chapel’s new leadership would shun all acts of antagonism and work towards uniting all its members and journalists across the state.

He said with the current situation of things, peace has come to the chapel, adding that NUJ members would continue to support activities of the state government to delivering democracy dividends to the people. 

In his goodwill message, former Vice Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Regis Anukwuoji urged members to support the new executive and ensure it succeeds in the overall interest of all.
