Nigerians Must Protect The Judiciary From Destruction By APC – Wike
BY MAXWELL GEORGE, PH – Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has urged Nigerians to protect the judiciary from total destruction by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that the time has come for the judiciary to also work towards protecting itself from planned destruction.
Wike expressed concern over the deliberate attempt by the APC to destroy the judiciary adding that it is clear that the judiciary has allowed leaders of the APC to toss it as witnessed during the ruling party’s internal crisis.
The Rivers governor specifically noted that a situation where the Court of Appeal granted a stay of execution on the suspension of the APC National Chairman and an FCT High Court went ahead to declare another person as Acting National Chairman speaks volume of how the APC has reduced the judiciary to a laughing stock.
Wike said that only the National Executive Committee of a political party has such powers and therefore advised the judiciary to watch its action before it destroys itself.
In his words; “The Judiciary should be on the alert. It should not allow itself to be used. It should not allow itself to be destroyed.
“APC should not be allowed to destroy the judiciary. The judiciary was there before APC and it was there before any political party. I cannot see the Judiciary being destroyed and keep quiet. I am not interested in what happens in the APC, but I am concerned with the judiciary and its survival.”
He therefore urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria to caution judges against the antics of the APC, adding that with the way the APC is directing the courts, Nigeria may not have the Judiciary again adding that everyone will pay the price.
The Rivers State governor said that the APC does not mean well for Nigeria, adding that it is a party of strange bedfellows merely formed to capture power.
Wike also berated his Imo State counterpart, Governor Hope Uzodinma, for accusing the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) of plotting the removal of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman of the APC, saying the comments credited to Uzodinma were most unfortunate.
In the words of Wike; “I read that Senator Hope Uzodinma said that the PDP conspired to plot the attempted removal of APC National Chairman. That is an unfortunate lie.
“It is unfortunate that Senator Hope Uzodinma will have the temerity to make that false allegation. Hope Uzodinma was an APC agent in PDP. That was why APC used him as an agent to support Ali Modu Sheriff, but they failed.
“Hope Uzodinma cannot talk about the attempted removal of APC National Chairman and mention the PDP. What is our business in the attempted removal of Oshiomhole? If Senator Uzodinma dares to make such false comments again about the PDP, we will tell the world about him.
“That he fraudulently took the mandate of PDP does not mean that PDP is weak. Hope Uzodinma lacks the capacity to discuss the PDP.
