NIS-CG To Personnel: Shun Corrupt Tendencies, Render Right Service Or Disengage
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – The Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS), Muhammadu Babandede has charged officers and men of the service to Key into the change mantra of the Federal Government by ensuring that they render the right service or disengage and give others chance to serve right.
Babandede, who gave the charged at the opening ceremony of the NIS 2021 SeviCom/ACTU sensitization and Enlightenment Workshop for officers and men of the Zone C of the Service in Bauchi on Thursday, said that the Service is looking forward to a zero tolerance on corruption and therefore urged Immigration Officers to ensure that services are rendered in a most transparent manner without hidden charges and or behind the curtain fees.
He particularly directed personnel of the NIS to shun corrupt practices capable of bringing the country into disrepute.
Babandede said that personnel of the Service must appreciate the fact that they are usually the first contact by foreigners coming into the country, adding that the impression they give will determine how the country will be viewed,
The Comptroller General of Immigration, said that considering the fact that the Service is the chief image maker of the country, its officers and men must ensure that their behavior and conduct are humane and courteous at all times.
Babandede, who was represented by the Zone C Coordinator, Bauchi, ACG Tijjani Lawal, further said; “Security is prime, because it is the pillar that holds the roof under which Nigerians take shelter; without which the roof will definitely collapse. It is expected of every public servant, Nigeria Immigration personnel inclusive to be highly transparent in the pursuit of his/her duties.
“Primarily, Nigeria Immigration Service is a security outfit, however service oriented, as it provides specialized services to Nigerians and non-Nigerians wishing to traverse, visit or be domiciled in Nigeria. Such services are expected to be provided with all decorum they deserve,” he said.
Babandede urged the personnel of the NIS to always remember that a customer has the right to be served right in accordance with the ServiCom jingle,
According to Babandede; “Therefore, timely and transparent service is a task that must be done. The customer, herein referred to as client has the right to seek for redress where he/she is not served right.
“The service provider herein referred to as the Immigration personnel are paid for their services, thus must serve right. It is a change mantra. You either serve right or disengage and give others chance to serve right. We are looking forward to a zero tolerance on corruption,” he said.
Earlier, the Controller of Bauchi Command of the NIS, Bappah Idris said that the workshop is timely considering the trend of events in the country particularly, the issues of corruption and corrupt practices which is eating deep into the fabric of the country’s existence.
He expressed confidence that with the sensitization, the officers and men of the Immigration Service will know what more to do in order to minimize to the barest minimum the issues of corruption and corrupt practices in the Service.
