The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended 11 Justices for appointment as Justices of the Supreme Court.
This was contained in a statement by Mr. Soji Oye, Director of Information of the NJC, saying that the recommendation was made at the Council’s 104th meeting on Wednesday in Abuja.
The recommended Justices when approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be sworn in after their screening and confirmation by the Senate.
Those recommended for as Justices of the Supreme Court include;
Hon. Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey, OFR
Hon. Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa
Hon. Justice Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme
Hon. Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani
Hon. Justice Moore Aseimo A. Adumein
Hon. Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya
Hon. Justice Stephen Jonah Adah
Hon. Justice Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru
Hon. Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur
Hon. Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar
Hon. Justice Mohammed Baba Idris
With their nomination, the Supreme Court is expected to have the full complement of 21 justices that the Constitution stipulates.
Similarly, the NJC at its last meeting for the year also recommended the appointment of Justice Mohammed Ramat to the Court of Appeal, as well as six Heads of Courts and 26 other judicial officers.
The statement by Mr. Soji Oye said that the various Heads of Court recommended would also be sworn-in upon the approval of their appointment by their various State Governors and subsequent confirmation of same by their respective State Houses of Assembly.

The National Judicial Council, at its 104 Meeting of 6 December 2023 considered the list of candidates presented by its Interview Committee and at the end of deliberations, recommended the under-listed names of successful candidates as Heads of Courts and other Judicial Officers for the Federal and State Courts in Nigeria.
