No Big Deal Spending N1.5m To Fuel Six Vehicles To Anambra – Minister
The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has justified the spending of N1.5m to fuel six vehicles in her convoy while on an official trip to Anambra State.
Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, who defended the spending when she featured on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Monday, July 15, 2024, said she was surprised that members of the House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs could question her for spending N1.5m on fuelling their journey, saying the amount was not a big deal.
This was coming barely six days to her appearance before the House of Reps members during which a heated argument took place as the lawmakers demanded to know how the Ministry of Women Affairs appropriated unrelated expenditures, including N45 million for a New Year Party, N20 million for sanitary pads and N1.5 million for petrol.
Commenting on the issues raised, Kennedy-Ohanenye said that she travelled with her staff in the bus, two security vehicles that included one for the DSS and police each, her main official vehicle, the backup, and one other.
According to her; “About six vehicles went all the way to Anambra State for a job and we came back. What is N1.5m for those cars? Everybody knows how much fuel cost since I came in.
“But when I was explaining, the lawmakers won’t even give me a chance to explain. They will tell me to just say a ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ How can I say yes or no without an explanation?” She enthused.
