  • Says suspension laughable
  • Buhari welcomes him to APC

BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – For an angry Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can go to blazes with its so-called suspension and there are no regrets bidding farewell to the ruling party in Delta State.

Axed for alleged anti-party activities by the PDP, some close associates of the Senator said on Friday that he has already moved on and the ‘umbrella’ party remains in the dustbin of history for now.

The aides also said the move by Nwaoboshi, who described the suspension by Delta PDP chapter as laughable, is already generating heat given his prime position among key financiers of the Party in the South South state.

In dumping PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nwaoboshi now joins the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege to swell the ranks of Delta state lawmakers in the red chamber to two Senators.

The controversial Senator, who made public his decision on Friday, June 25, 2021, was received into the APC’s fold by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.

Currently representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Nwaoboshi was formally presented to the President and the National Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) by Senator Omo-Agege.

According to the Deputy Senate President, Senator Nwaoboshi’s decision to join forces with the APC is a clear indication that the efforts by the CECPC were already yielding positive results for the ruling Party across the country.

He noted that with the warm welcome from President Buhari and other party members, the Senator has a solid footing to continue contributing his quota to nation building as well as the growth of APC as a national asset.

The defection by Nwaoboshi comes less than 48 hours after his suspension was announced by the Delta State chapter of PDP over alleged anti-party activities.

A statement by the State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, said in Asaba on Wednesday that; “The State Working Committee of the Delta State Chapter of the PDP, rising from an emergency meeting, suspended the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, for a period of one month.

“This action has become necessary against the backdrop of the recent romance with an opposition Party, verbal recklessness, and unprovoked utterances of Nwaoboshi, particularly against the person of His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State, which the PDP State Working Committee views strongly as totally unacceptable, disturbing and unbecoming of a politician and party member of his stature.

“The PDP State Working Committee is in no doubt that the rash, unguarded, confused and heavily noxious, and vitriolic attacks by Senator Nwaoboshi, a serving Senator and a very recent chairman of our great party, are potentially inimical to the peace and harmony of the party and tantamount to causing discord and disaffection among loyal party members.”

Recalled that speaking at his country home in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the State, Senator Nwaoboshi had castigated Okowa administration for neglecting the Delta North senatorial district in distribution of government projects.

Playing host to some ardent supporters, the outspoken legislator said; “Urhobo and Itsekiri governors performed credibly well than our own Anioma (Delta North) governor.”

“What has the Anioma governor done for Asaba people to show that he loves Asaba more than the Delta Central people?”, he had queried his audience at the event.
