Stanley Amandi, a popular Nollywood actor and film producer, has been arrested in connection with an alleged coup plot involving some Nigerian military officers targeted  at overthrowing the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Amandi, a former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Enugu State chapter, was reportedly taken into custody in September 2025.

Details over his alleged role in the plot only surfaced recently after the submission of the report by the panel that investigated the arrested officers.

A report by Premium Times indicated that investigators alleged that Amandi was recruited by some of the suspected conspirators to act as a propagandist.

Authorities believe this role formed part of a wider scheme to unlawfully remove the Tinubu-led government from power.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed that investigations into the alleged coup attempt have been concluded and also revealed that military officers implicated in the plot will be subjected to court-martial proceedings.

The military top hierarchy also said that the actions of the suspected plotters, constitute a serious violation of the ethics and professional standards of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

It was however, gathered that civilians linked to the alleged coup plot including Amandi, are expected to face prosecution in civil courts as the legal process advances, but affected military personnel will first appear before military judicial panels.
