BY OLAKUNLE AWONIYI, ABUJA – A political group on the aegis ofNorth Central Progressive Group’ on Wednesday opposed the position of the Southern Governors’ Forum for the president to emerge from the Southern part of the country in2023, saying that it is time for Nigeria and Nigerians to consider the North Central geo-political zone for the number one position come 2023.

Spokesperson of the group Benjamin Sanni, who stated the position of the geo-political zone at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, said this is the right time for power to shift to the North Central since it has not tested it since the advent of the present democratic dispensation.

Sanni also canvassed that for the pegging of age at less than 60years for the presidency in 2023, saying that aspirants that would be sixty by 2023 which is the retirement age for civil servants, should not be allowed to contest or should be rejected by Nigerians.

Sanni said that the legitimate agitation of the North Central is anchored on the need for the region to come to power in 2023 with a view to take the country to the desired destination that Nigerians have been praying to get to.

He said that no matter the age bracket, the zone is agitating that from 60yeas downward, any candidate from the North Central will deliver Nigeria.

Also speaking, a member of the group, Aisha Okoye said that the North Central has never had a voice to say they want to vie for presidency or anything, adding that this is the first time it is coming up.

Okoye said; “So, why won’t they give them the chance. I think there should not be any kind of argument about the North Central as it is not based on sentiments.

“Our Eastern brothers like my brother said, if they are ready, they should show seriousness that they are ready. For now, it is clear that the North Central is ready and that is why we are voicing out that we are ready for the presidency,” she said.
