BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – Youth groups in the North on the aegis of Joint Consultative Forum of Northern Youth Groups, have enjoined the new principal officers of the National Assembly to translate their blueprints to an improved economy and accelerated growth in the country.

The youth urged the winners and losers of the just concluded National Assembly election to bury the past and work in harmony for the good of the nation.

These were contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kaduna by the chairman of the Joint Consultative Forum of Northern Youth Groups, Murtala Abubakar, who also said that Nigerians particularly the youth would like to see the implementation of blueprints that would translate to an improved economy and accelerated growth in the country.

While congratulating Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan and Hon Femi Gbajabiamila on their election as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively, the groups also felicitated with Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Hon Ahmed Idris Wase on their election as Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.

The youth groups declared support for the leadership of the legislature and assured of their willingness to work with the leaders in whatever capacity they are called upon, especially in the onerous task of pushing Nigeria to greater heights.

The groups described the emergence of the new leaders of the National Assembly as the reflection of the wishes of the majority of Senators and members of the House and urged the winners and losers to bury the past and work in harmony for the good of the nation.

The youth prayed to God to guide the new House leadership and ensure the success of the 9th National Assembly through enthronement of democratic ideals and legislative interventions geared towards the development of Nigeria.

Abubakar said; “We pray God will give them the wisdom and strength to pilot the affairs of the National Assembly and contribute positively in enthroning good governance in Nigeria.

“We have no doubt that going by their pedigree and legislative experience, their emergence would bring peace and development to the nation which would enhance the socio-economic well-being of all Nigerians.”

While commending the transparent, peaceful and matured manner in which the elections at the National Assembly took place, the Northern Youth Groups said all the lawmakers and their political parties displayed patriotism and non-partisanship before and during the election.

This feat, the groups noted is unprecedented and deserved commendation by all Nigerians.
