One of the most notorious bandit commanders accused of masterminding deadly attacks, kidnappings, cattle rustling and widespread sexual violence across Zamfara State, known as Kachalla Sani Yellow, has been killed by Hybrid security forces involved in counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations in the North-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

Sani Yellow was described by security sources as one of the most influential bandit commanders that operated within the forests spanning Anka, Bukkuyum, Maru and neighbouring Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.

The eliminated bandits’ commander was also believed to have been responsible for coordinating several attacks on rural communities, organising large-scale kidnappings for ransom, rustling livestock and leading violent raids that displaced thousands of residents across the North-West geopolitical zone.

He was reported to be related to the late Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo, a known notorious bandit commander in the Northwest zone that was reportedly killed in 2025 alongside over 170 of his fighters during a major operation conducted by the Shinkafi Yan Sakai Volunteer Forces.

The lifeless body of Sani Yello was tied to a motorcycle and dragged through a roadway in a victory procession by members of the special forces that eliminated him after just as a convoy of armed volunteers celebrated what they described as the elimination of one of the region’s most feared criminal leaders.

It was gathered that the operation that led to the elimination of the Sani Yello was the result of a well coordinated intelligence-led ambush.

Information pieced together from dependable security sources, indicated that the hybrid forces that worked in collaboration with local volunteers, reformed and repentant Boko Haram members from the North-East as well as other security agencies in other operational zones areas, led to an effective tracking of the movements of the criminals through intelligence provided by local communities.

The operations targeted ambushing the movement of the armed bandit convoys with the sole aim of disrupting their logistics networks and also targeting terrorist commanders responsible for attacks on vulnerable communities.

It was specifically gathered that the operations led to Sani Yellow being intercepted while visiting a local market, where he had allegedly gone to collect proceeds from rustled livestock as well as negotiated ransom payments from kidnapped victims, a move that led to his being identified through local intelligence.

According to a source; “The moment he was identified and confirmed by the locals, the hybrid forces in a decisive move, took position and neutralised him before he could make any attempt to escape”.

It was gathered from sources close to the community that the late Sani Yellow usually subjected his victims to severe torture and was known to have severally ordered members of his gang to sexually assault female captives whose families were unable to raise ransom payments.

A highly reliable security source who spoke to Forefront News on condition of anonymity, said following the killing of Sani Yello, security agencies are seriously monitoring developments, stressing that troops have increased surveillance across affected communities to prevent possible retaliatory attacks by members of the Sani Yellow’s gang as was the case in the past.
