APC and PDP - bickering continues

BY UBON EKANEM – The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the November 16 Bayelsa State governorship election, Chief David Lyon has mocked Governor Seriake Dickson for making the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) unpopular and unattractive to the people.

He said the governor’s eight years of mis-rule, spiced with perpetual self-adoration and unrestrained propaganda, has left the South-South state in a worst condition than he met it.

Lyon however promised that being a trained scientist, he is adequately prepared for governance, thinking out and seeking practical solutions to the problems of the State and its people

Speaking against the backdrop  of Governor Dickson’s tantrums at the inauguration of PDP gubernatorial campaign in the State, Lyon said solving identified problems rather that empty promises and noise-making is what the people of Bayelsa need at this time.

In a statement released by his Media aide, Chief Gift Ebiki, the APC flag-bearer said good governance is beyond deployment of flowery words and garrulous talks to confuse and deceive the people.

According to him, an elected governor must always think ahead, identify  problems, formulate actionable plans, deploy and monitor human and material resources to resolve  issues and ensure achievements of set goals.

The statement said; “This is who Lyon is. By virtue of my training as a scientist having studied Chemistry and Mathematics, I am prepared to solve the problems of my people. We have identified the problems and we are going to solve them.

“We won’t speak too much grammar about it. We will simply roll up our sleeves and get to work. It is on record that those who talk too much have little or no action.

“Most of them abuse public resources, divert our commonwealth to their private and family pockets and then use beautiful grammar to cover up.

“For me and my team, our actions and performance will do the talking” for us.

Urging Governor Dickson to focus on redeeming PDP’s battered image due to his mal-administration, Lyon said the electorate’s verdict on November 16 will clearly demonstrate that the ruling party has been utterly rejected by Bayelsans due to years of broken promises, underdevelopment and poverty in the midst of huge monthly federal allocation that accrues to the State government.

The APC candidate said rather than embarking on campaign of calumny and offensive remarks against him and well-meaning individuals in the state, the governor should channel his energy towards resolving simmering crisis inflicted on PDP by his poor performance in office.

Lyon said PDP remains a sinking ship because of the governor’s alleged greed, arrogance and lack of engagement with the people who have now abandoned him to embrace the new era of hope as represented by the APC.

He said Governor Dickson should be more disturbed that even the PDP national leadership and Governors from friendly states were conspicuously missing in action when the party flagged off  its governorship campaigns.

Lyon also  said the inability of Governor Dickson’s anointed candidate and running mate to attract their PDP colleagues at the National Assembly to attend the occasion further confirmed their unpopularity and un acceptability at both home and abroad.

“I want to tell Dickson that governorship is not a talk show. Dickson should also know that every Bayelsa understands his antics of propaganda and falsehood. Dickson should know that Bayelsans are well informed and need someone who has the capacity to provide food for Bayelsans, create employment opportunities and to improve their standard of living and build lasting infrastructures for them.

“I Chief David Lyon, by the grace of God assures Bayelsans that I have the capacity to provide these essential amenities. Bayelsans know that by God’s Grace, I have provided job opportunities for more than 7000 families out of my personal business organization, which has given succor to most of the Bayelsans that the Dickson administration has impoverished.

“I am a scientist by training, having read Mathematics and Chemistry, and scientist are not noisemakers, we are thinkers, doers and implementers. My business empire did not come up through plagiarism, but with guided thoughts and emotions. I am what I am today by the special grace of God.”

Maintaining that  the 21st century generation need men and women who are innovators, capable of providing better and sustainable environment for their immediate families, communities, local government and states, the APC candidate said; “I am proud to be among these categories of young men in Bayelsa in particular and Nigeria at large.”

He further said that; “The days of Politics of bitterness, name-calling are over. Today’s politics is what you can offer to elevate the sufferings of people. Dickson should know that, the APC new era 2019 team will surely take over reigns of government on November 16th, 2019 in Bayelsa state”
