NUJ FCT Condemns Looting In Abuja, Sues For Peace
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council has condemned the looting of warehouses and vandalization of public and private properties by hoodlums and vandals in the FCT, describing it as unnecessary and reprehensible.
According to the Council, it is regrettable how a peaceful protest suddenly turned violent when it was hijacked by hoodlums and other malicious individuals.
A statement, jointly signed by Emmanuel Ogbeche and Ochiaka Ugwu, Chairman and Secretary of Council respectively, said; “Council is alarmed at the worrying increase in reports of hoodlums masquerading as protesters targeting warehouses and vandalising public and private properties.
“It is regrettable that a protest aimed at addressing alleged police brutality and extra-judicial murders has become a nightmare to law abiding and peaceful loving citizens.”
The Council expressed its full support for the FCT Administration and its call for an end to “this unfortunate development and the arrest of those culpable in the economic sabotage.”
While urging the FCTA to explore effective means of addressing youth concerns in the territory, the Council appealed to all individuals and interest groups to always follow lawful means in addressing their grievances.
