NUJ Strengthens Membership, Delists NOA, Non Information Officers And NULGE Members

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), at its Special Delegates Conference in Kano which ended on Thursday, January 26, 2023 delisted staff of Local Government Councils, National Orientation Agency (NOA), and non-Information officers with State Ministry of Information from its membership list and Constitution.

The Conference however resolved that staff of the NOA and Local Government Councils that are presently holding elective positions in the NUJ shall be allowed to served out their tenure of office.

The Conference which held at the Afficient Event Centre, Kano resolved that the minimum entry qualification into Journalism profession in Nigeria and membership of the NUJ shall be Degree, Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication and Journalism related Courses.

It however added a caveat stating that its members that have practiced for about 10years before 2023 with Ordinary National Diploma (OND), and or, its equivalent are eligible to retain their membership of the Union.

The NUJ Conference accorded recognition to the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) as affiliates and also granted approval for Beats Associations.

The Union reduced the number of its persons that would be attending its Delegates Conference to one per chapel Justas it retained the tenure of an executive committee to three years.

The Conference which was presided over by the President of the NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, was declared opened by the Governor of Kano State, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje.
