BY COBHAM NSA – The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Shemseldeen Babtunde Ogunjimi has promised to back the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in its efforts to make the highways and roads safe for Nigerians across the across.

He said given the enormity of FRSC’s mandate of safeguarding lives on Nigerian roads, particularly in making the highways safe for motorists and other road users, the Treasury will prioritize all requests coming from the Corps to ensure prompt release of funds for their allocations and entitlements.

Mr. Ogunjimi, who spoke during a working visit to the Corps Marshall of the FRSC, Mr Shehu Mohammed in Abuja, assured that the existing cordial relationship between the OAGF and FRSC will be strengthened and sustained.

He said; “Your officers and men are always on the road trying to keep the roads safe. For us at the Treasury, we will continue to support the FRSC.

“I want to assure you that every bit of your request and needs will be given prompt attention.”

The AGF, while praising the FRSC’s officers and men for their commitment to duty in the face of obvious challenges, urged them not to relent in their efforts towards effective mandate delivery.

Earlier in his remarks, the Corps Marshall of the FRSC, Mr Shehu Mohammed, thanked the AGF for the visit, even as he acknowledged support given to the Corps by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF).

A statement by Bawa Mokwa
Director of Press and Public Relations, OAGF, quoted Mohammed as saying that road safety has become a global agenda and FRSC will not relent in its determination to ensure safety on Nigerian roads.

The Corps Marshall, who noted that strategies to promote road safety cannot succeed without adequate enforcement, highlighted the operational challenges faced by the FRSC in handling its statutory responsibilities of road safety administration and management in Nigeria

He therefore requested the AGF’s support in addressing existing challenges through enhanced budgetary provisions as well as timely release of funds.
