BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) on Thursday in Abuja announced the suspension of the October 1, 2017 quit notice it served on Igbos living in Northern part of the country.

The latest development is expected to douse the political tensions in the country created by the Arewa Youths Council’s Kaduna Declaration.

This decision to suspend the quit notice by the Arewa Youths was announced at a press conference at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja and addressed by about 15 Northern youth groups led by the Arewa Youths Council (AYC) that hitherto issued the controversial and highly condemned quit.

Curiously, the briefing was attended by the Chairman, Northern Governors’ Forum and Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima; former governor of Kano State, Senator Kabiru Gaya; former Minister, Malam Sani Daura; the Eze Ndigbo of Kano and Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo.

The Coalition of Northern Youths said it anchored its grounds on Kaduna Declaration on the insults and threats by Nnamdi Kanu-led Independent People of Biafra (IPOB).

The group stressed that lgbos do not allow other citizens of Nigeria to own properties in the entire South-east, in addition to lgbos being the suppliers of hard and fake drugs across Northern Nigeria.

The Arewa Youth specifically accused the Igbos of gross economic and social crimes against Northern Nigeria, thus the “Kaduna Declaration,” adding however that in spite of their grievances, they held meetings with their Northern elders and then Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.

According to the Arewa Youths, “Consequent upon the meetings, we resolved today, Thursday 24, 2017, to announce the suspension of the Kaduna Declaration and rescind the lgbo Quit Notice.

“We call for a Referendum for lgbos under the United Nations which the Nigerian Government subscribed to and to declare IPOB as a terrorist organization as well as close all drugs shops in the Northern Nigeria owned by the lgbos.”
