The apex Igbo socio-cultural group in Nigeria, Ohaneze Ndigbo has distanced itself from the so-called youth wing of the body, urging Nigerians to ignore statements by one Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Okwu Nnabuike parading as president and secretary respectively.
Special Adviser to the President-General of Ohaneze, Chief Emeka Attamah, said claims by the twosome that they were officials of Ohaneze youth wing were false and deceitful.
In a statement issued by Attamah in Enugu, Ohaneze dismissed the group’s claims, maintaining that though not ready to join issues with both men, there was an urgent need to address some misrepresentations contained in their statements.
According to Attamah, it is unfortunate that in their search of cheap popularity, both men threw caution to the winds and cast aspersions on the person of Ohaneze Ndigbo’s President-General, Chief Nnia Nwodo.
He explained that the youth wing of Ohaneze Ndigbo was dissolved in 2016 by Ime-Obi led National Executive Council, while the tenure of the women wing expired in 2017, adding that the so-called Ohaneze youth wing executive does not exist because new executives for both the youth and women wings are to be elected soon.
Attamah said the National Executive Council (NEC) of Ohaneze Ndigbo existed at the instance of the General Assembly, which had demonstrated confidence on the Nwodo-executive committee, even as he maintained that President-General continues to enjoy the confidence of NEC.
He said the President-General remains the only x executive member banned by the Ohanaze’s constitution from participating in party politics.
Attamah, who insisted that associating Nwodo with party politics is the handiwork of some politicians, said it was laughable to accuse Nwodo of romancing with any political aspirant, let alone influence his choice of a running mate. (NAN)
