Ondo First Lady Engages Citizens On RMNCAH + N Initiative
BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – Wife of the Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu says her ‘Olori Connection’ initiative draws great strength from the wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari’s passion for improving the lots of Nigerian women and children.
Mrs Akeredolu also said with the signed undertaking to ensure quality life for the masses; she will not renege on that noble pact with the people of Ondo State.
Speaking at the end of her campaign tour of the RMNCAH + N project in Okitipupa, headquarters of Okitipupa local government, the Ondo State first lady said Mrs Buhari’s focus on the welfare of women and children has further emboldened her drive to engaged the grassroots for improved living standards.
The First Lady, who met with wives of traditional rulers in the southern senatorial district of the state, said; “I noticed that women are still dying during pregnancy, child-bearing and inability to take care of the living childrenwhich prompted me to do something about it.”
According to her, ”The president’s wife who thought that she could not do it alone invited wives of the governors and solicited for our collaborative efforts at achieving her mission, therefore in a bid to make the project a huge success, I decided to take it to the grassroots in Ondo State through the Oloris”.
Mrs Akeredolu said the importance of immunisation and its free administration to children cannot be emphasised, but lamented that the people have not being mobilized adequately to access the exercise and its benefit to the fullest.
Among resource persons that made presentations on several topics at the programme were Dr Banke Oluwafemi; Dr. Francis Akanbiemu; Mrs. Bosede Ojumu; and Mr. Falusi Tunbosun, the Ondo State Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA).
In her remarks, wife of the Abodi of Ikale, Olori Grace Faduyile, said Arabinrin Akeredolu’s impact in less than one year in office has already surpassed what the wives of some governors did in four years or more.
Olori Faduyile assured the First Lady that the programme would be fully implemented in her kingdom for the overall benefit of the people.
Also, wife of the Jegun of Ile- Oluji, Olori Adetokunbo Adetimehin said given the inherent positives in the project, it has become imperative for all hands to be on deck towards making it a huge success.
“It is only in an uncivilised society that registrations of birth and death are not taken serious in the modern days”, she said
Chairman of Okitipupa local government, Mrs Morenike Alaka, who hosted the event, was all smiles as she said; “Nothing compares with the initiatives of our only ‘digital Mama’.
Top local government officials and political leaders from the six council areas in the southern senatorial district graced the occasion.
Participants at the programme applauded Mrs Akeredolu for the good works she is doing in the state.
In her on-going campaign, First Lady Arabinrin Akeredolu had earlier engaged stakeholders in the central and northern Senatorial districts of the state.
