The Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba Akoko, Ondo state is still grieving over the death of a 200 level student of the institution, one Feranmi Fasunle Omowunmi reported to have committed suicide during the Sallah break.

According reliable sources, it was indeed a black Ed-el-Fitri holiday for the University family as Omowunmi, with the matriculation number 180503006, purportedly drank sniper (a popular but now restricted use pesticide or rats’ killer) on Wednesday, May 12, 2021

Though reasons for her action still remain unknown, rumours making the rounds have it that the unfortunate development might not be unconnected with a failed relationship involving the late Omowunmi, who was of the University’s Political Science Department.

However, her friends have denied that she was into any relationship since gaining admission to the university. It was gathered that she took the deadly substance in her room in the Akungba community.

Sources in the institution said when her friends discovered what happened, they rushed her to the institution’s health centre from where she was again taken to the Specialist Hospital in lkare and thereafter referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo on Wednesday.

Eyewitness account said she gave up the ghost at the FMC, Owo while about to be referred again to the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state.

Omowunmi’s parents, who reportedly accompanied her to the FMC, were said to have been so distraught with the unfortunate development.

Responding to enquiries on the incident, Head of Information, Protocol and Public Relations in the University, Victor Akinpelumi told vanguard; ”I can confirm that the incident is true; but the reason why she took that decision is still sketchy as none of her close friends and colleagues could state the reason why she decided to die in such way. – Vanguard News
