Onnoghen: CCT Adjourns Hearing To March 11

BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on Friday adjourned until March 11 for further hearing on the trial of suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.

The Danladi Umar-led Tribunal had on Wednesday issued a bench warrant directing the Nigeria Police and Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest and present for trial on Friday Justice Onnoghen who has repeatedly shunned the Tribunal’s sitting to answer charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

The embattled CJN pleaded not guilty to the charges of non-declaration of some of his bank accounts in foreign currencies and was granted bail by the three-member Tribunal on self-recognition.

By his arraignment, Onnoghen becomes the first Chief Justice of Nigeria to be docked

Justice Onnoghen and his team, comprising defence counsels and some family members, arrived the Tribunal at 9.40am to face the tribunal.

Forefront learnt that the suspended CJN was however not arrested as ordered by the CCT chairman, Danladi Umar because he willing brought himself to the court.
