A United Kingdom (UK) court has denied Nigeria’s former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka, bail over alleged conspiracy to harvest the organs of a child.

According to media reports, the couple appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday slammed with child trafficking and organ harvesting accusations.

The reports stated that the “alleged victim in this case is a homeless 15-year-old boy who was brought to the UK by Mr and Mrs Ekweremadu off the streets of Lagos, Nigeria.”

The case has been adjourned to July 7, 2022 while both of them are remanded in prison custody.

The incident is coming days after the lawmaker attracted social media backlash over his adverse comments on Peter Obi’s 2023 presidency.

The London Metropolitan Police information sheet indicated thus; “Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.”

The statement further reads; “Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“They have both been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today.”

“A child has been safeguarded and we are working closely with partners on continued support. As criminal proceedings are now under way, we will not be providing further details.”

As the report surfaced in the social media, efforts to contact the Enugu State-born lawmaker proved abortive as all his known official and private phone lines could not be reached.

Similarly, the phone line of his spokesman, Mr. Uche Anichukwu, has become perpetually busy.

However, hints from competent insiders indicate that since the news break, friends, colleagues and close associates have all been making frantic efforts, without much success, to have first hand information on current developments.
