Party Structures: PDP NWC Rejects Obaseki’s Delegates List
- Retains statutory list
The National Working Committee (NWC), of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may have succeeded in throwing Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State into despair and frenzy as it rejected the list of delegates he allegedly compiled.
Forefront News gathered that the Dr Iyorcha Ayu-led NWC rejected both Obaseki’s list as well as the one considered to be the authentic list in order to put an end to the avoidable controversy it has generated so far.
The NWC is believed to have insisted on following laid down procedures and processes in line with a subsisting court ruling and in compliance with constitutional due process.
The development is believed to be a devastating blow that would force and knock Obaseki’s hands off the control of the party structures in the state in the build-up to the primary elections of the party to elect its standard bearers.
The NWC, it was gathered, resolved to stick to the statutory delegates to elect the party’s standard bearers in Edo State.
These statutory delegates are mostly members of the original PDP who have vehemently resisted the integration of Governor Obaseki and his APC defectors and loyalists before the state 2020 governorship election.
The stout resistance by members of the original PDP, competent sources hinted was as a result of moves by Governor Obaseki to dissolve the State Executive Committee of the party that was validly elected for a four-year term at the last Congress of the party which was validated by the National Convention.
Insiders disclosed that following the decision of the NWC to reject Obaseki’s doctored list which he was believed to have covertly replaced, the Edo State Chief Executive may have totally lost control of the party structures he desired so much to have in his kitty.
