BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – Ahead of the 2027 general elections, there is growing support base for Governor Alex Otti to enjoy a stress-free return to the Abia State Government House for his second tenure.

The latest goodwill is coming from an unlikely source, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Deputy Governor of Abia State Sir Ude Oko Chukwu.

According to Sir Oko Chukwu, through his landmark achievements so far, Governor Otti has automatically earned himself a second term in office.

Speaking in a chat with journalists at Governor Otti’s country home in Nvosi, after their closed-door meeting, the PDP top brass acknowledged that Governor Otti has transformed various sectors of the State’s economy within a short period in office.

Sir Oko Chukwu said; “I’ve gone around Abia State, especially those of us who come from Abia North. You just discover that the kind of road infrastructure that we have there is unprecedented.

“It is not all about politics, it’s not, no propaganda about it. The truth must be told. There is a huge and remarkable improvement in Abia State”.

He praised the Governor’s deliberate and strategic approach to governance, particularly in infrastructure, health, and sports, adding; “You discover that virtually everything that he (Gov Otti) is doing, he is been very, very intentional about everything. Is it in terms of road infrastructure? Is it on health? Is it on sports? Very, very intentional.

“Going by what he (Otti) has done so far, you will discover that, without mincing words, he has earned himself another tenure”.

The immediate past Deputy Governor, who once served as Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, described Governor Otti’s infrastructural revolution across Abia North, Aba and Umuahia as unprecedented

Also, he noted that the level of cleanliness witnessed under the current administration is unlike anything previously experienced, saying; “Even if you move around Aba, move around Umuahia, the level of cleanliness is such that we have not witnessed before”.

Explaining that he visited the Governor to commend and appreciate his achievements while reassuring him of the support of Abia stakeholders, Sir Chukwu further said; “So we just come to commend him and to appreciate him and let him know that all hands are on deck to support him and looking at all that he has been able to do within just two years.

“You can just be reassured that the man has earned himself another tenure”.

Asked if he and other opposition figures would dump the PDP to join the Governor’s Labour Party, Sir Chukwu said when such decision is taken it would be announced publicly.

Speaking further, he said, “They are doing realignments. It’s also likely that some of us will also join them in doing realignments. If I’m going to do that (join LP), I will invite all of you to be part of what will happen, maybe soonest”.
