BY CHAMBERLAIN ODEY, JOS – The Plateau State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has flagged off the Atiku Abubakar/Caleb Mutfwang presidential and gubernatorial campaigns at a zonal rally in Plateau South during which the rungs of the Party were boosted by 17,000 defectors fleeing from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The rally which held at the Mini Stadium of Shendam Local Government Area, headquarters of the Plateau South Senatorial District, was a well-attended event that witnessed a surging of followers of the Party from the constituent local government areas that throng the commercial and agrarian first Missionary settlement in Plateau State, creating traffic gridlock and paralyzing commercial activities.

Addressing the mammoth crowd at the event which highlights included presentation of the PDP flags to National Assembly and State Assembly candidates in the zone, the State PDP gubernatorial flag bearer, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, urged Plateau people to uphold democracy by voting out the APC, noting that the era of the APC in the State has been a plague that had occasioned stagnation and hardship throughout the State.

Mutfwang said the time is now for Plateau State to turn a new leaf by voting in the PDP to end the cycle of killings, kidnapping, banditry, lack of access to affordable health care, potable water, and other social services.

Former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah David Jang, whose presence added colour and pomp to the occasion, called on the people to take inventory of the APC Government in the State, noting that there is nothing to cheer about the era because it has left the State the worse for it.

Recalling that the PDP has never lost in the presidential election in Plateau State since it came into being, Jang advised Plateau electorates to comprehensively vote for the PDP in the forthcoming elections to restore the tradition of infrastructure development and citizen empowerment in the State.

In his goodwill message, Elder statesman and one-time Nigerian Ambassador to Switzerland, Yahaya Kwande, said Nigeria, and, indeed, Plateau State are about to embrace a new dawn, and that Atiku Abubakar and Caleb Mutfwang will deliver a new era of prosperity and peace which Nigerians have craved for in recent times.

The Director General of the Atiku/Mutfwang Campaign organization who is also immediate past chairman of the State APC, Letep Dabang, regretted that the APC has failed to deliver on all the promises it made to Nigerians, and the people have no reason to risk voting for a party that cannot be trusted. Thus, he called on the people return Nigeria and Plateau State to the path of progress, peace, and unity by voting for the PDP from top to bottom.

There were goodwill messages from present and past National Assembly members, State House of Assembly members, former Ministers, Party chieftains, and former political appointees in the State, amidst sundry support groups and members of the public.
