PDP Taunts Sylva, Says Quit Bayelsa Guber Race Now
- Insists former Minister will face disgrace in Nov 11 poll
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Campaign Council in Bayelsa State has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer Chief Timipre Sylva, to honourably step down from the race to avoid the embarrassmentthat awaits him at the November 11 governorship election.
According to the ruling party in the State, the odds are so much stacked against the former Minister of State for Petroleum that withdrawing from the contest now is the only option left for him to save his face from defeat and public ridicule
Speaking during the PDP’s Sagbama Local Government Area Constituency 3 rally at Agbere community in continuation of Governor Douye Diri’s re-election campaigns, the Director-General of the Campaign Council, Mitema Obordor, said, unlike the PDP ticket of Governor Douye Diri and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the APC candidate does not enjoy any level of acceptance across the state.
According to Obordor, who is the House of Representatives member for the Ogbia Federal Constituency, the situation on the ground is a pointer to Slyva’s imminent defeat, given that everything around him is shrouded in controversy and deceit of the people he seeks to govern.
A press statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Duoye Diri further quoted Obordor as saying at the event thus; “Let me begin my remarks with a call on Timipre Sylva to toe the part of honour and step down from this election.
“There are reasons I say this. The first is that for you to govern a state, you must be seen to be an honest person. You cannot say a thing today and turn 180 degrees tomorrow to do a different thing.”
Further taking the former Minister to the cleaners on what he described as insincerity in dealing with the people of Bayelsa State, the PDP Campaign Council Chairman said; “The same man spoke publicly that the chapter of contesting for the governorship was over in his life. So, that man is dishonest as far as I am concerned.”
