BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Pensioners of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi who are facing untold hardship following their unpaid entitlements have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari as a matter of necessity and urgency intervene in the untold plight which has brought about untold hardship on them and their families.

Chairman of the Association of Polytechnic Pensioners, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi branch, Mr Yusuf Adamu, who made the appeal while speaking with journalists at the NUJ Press Center, Baauchi, said that members of the association numbering over 200 are currently living in abject poverty.

Adamu said that their entitlements are stocked somewhere in the coffers of government, stressing that the development has placed them in a precarious situation.

Adamu added that some of them left active service since 2007 and are yet to be paid, a situation that has left them at the mercy of friends, relatives and other well-wishers, who he said are gradually getting tired of assisting them.

He explained that though the PTAD has acknowledged receipt of their papers from the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, no attempt has been made to pay their entitlements despite series of correspondences.

While exonerating authorities of Federal Polythenic from any delay, he said that their grouse is that their entitlements were not calculated based on CONSSIT just as they were owned over one year payment.

He called on the Polytechnic to do the needful while appealing to President Buhari to quickly intervene, saying; “many of our members have died waiting, some have their children withdrawn from schools, cannot afford medical bills nor provide food for their families. Why is government treating us like this after serving diligently and honestly?”
