BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Former Governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, on Thursday formally declared interest to contest for Nigeria’s presidency come 2023.
Obi, the former Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections, disclosed this at a meeting with Anambra Traditional rulers and Presidents General of various communities in Awka, the Anambra State capital
A video of the declaration posted by Oseloka H. Obaze on his Twitter handle indicates that the former Anambra State Chief Executive will be pursuing his aspiration on the platform of the PDP.
According to him, the meeting was to formally unveil his aspiration and receive their royal blessings and support before reaching out to the larger society.

Interestingly, in the pursuit of this presidential project, Obi, considered by many Nigerians as a shrewd businessman-politician, would be going against Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar who amid opposition picked him as his running mate during the 2019 general elections.
Born July, 19, 1961, his eight years tenure in Anambra was marked with visible development projects and frugal spending of government and public resources.
He administered the South East state as governor from 2006 to 2013 before handing over the reins of power to immediate past Governor Willie Obiano.
