The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi has said that the pact he has with some aggrieved Governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the common interest in making Nigeria a better country.
Obi, who stated this on Tuesday in Makurdi, the Benue state capital when he paid a visit on Governor Samuel Ortom, said that the connection between hims and the Governor Nyesom Wike-led aggrieved PDP governors is for the good of Nigeria that needs to be rescued.
The aggrieved PDP governors being led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State include Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikepeazu of Abia state, and Samuel Ortom of Benue State.
The aggrieved PDP governors are insisting on the resignation of the National Chairman of the Party, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu in order for a Southerner to occupy the office for peace to reign.
The presidential candidate particularly castigated the All Progressives Congress (APC) for displaying lack of leadership in the handling of the insecurity in the country particularly as it affected Benue State.
In the words of Obi; “The only deal I have with them is that they are passionate about Nigeria”.
Obi, who is believed to be enjoying the subtle support of the PDP aggrieved governors, commended Governor Ortom for frontally confronting the insecurity challenges in Benue state at personal risk and comfort.
Speaking in turn, Governor Samuel Ortom, urged Peter Obi to negotiate power with other leading presidential candidates with a commitment to serve the people.
Ortom said that the 2023 General Election should not be about political party, ethnic group but competence and capacity to serve, adding that if he was not a member of the PDP, he would have been in the field working for the Labour party candidate.
