Planted Boko Haram Bomb Kills Seven, Injures Several Others In Borno

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) believed to have been planted by the deadly Boko Haram terrorists on the dilapidated and deserted road which cut across Sambisa Forest, has left about seven people dead and several others badly injured.

Sources said the explosion took place when cars on a scheduled military-escort of vehicles on convoy were transporting passengers from Damboa to Maiduguri on Saturday.

The Maiduguri-Damboa Road links Maiduguri to several local government areas in Southern Borno and known to be a hotspot for Boko Haram terrorists for over a decade.

The road was initially closed to vehicles and commuters before the administration of Professor Babagana Zulum opened the road for passengers to travel to Damboa, Chibok and other parts of southern Borno.

They journeys were however with the assistance of military convoy which serve as security cover for the commuters.

Accordingly, the military convoy usually traverse the road twice a week after proper scanning for IED by the military.

This has been the practice for over two years now until the devastating Saturday’s explosion

While the number of recoded dead persons was put at seven, the actual number of injured persons could not be determined even as they have been conveyed to a hospital in Maiduguri for medical attention.
